For decades, the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants have promised glamour, prestige and life-changing opportunities. But what happens when the crown comes with controversy?
TLC is revealing the not-so-glamorous side of the pageant world in its upcoming three-part documentary, Crown of Deceit: Inside the Miss Universe Scandal, premiering Thursday, November 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The series explores allegations of misconduct, intimidation, favoritism and competition rigging within the organizations, featuring interviews with former contestants, insiders and whistleblowers who describe a reality far removed from the glittering stage. Among those speaking out in the series are Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt, former Miss Michigan Taylor Hale and former Miss Indiana Brittany Mason.
According to TLC, the documentary examines claims involving secret nondisclosure agreements, contestant safety concerns, financial pressures and leadership turmoil that have rocked the pageant world. One particularly explosive chapter is focused on the 2025 Miss Universe competition in Thailand, where a very public argument sparked a contestant walkout. The controversy escalated when a judge resigned ahead of the finals, alleging that finalists had been selected in advance.
The documentary also examines secret audio recordings and additional allegations that have sparked questions about the organization’s integrity. But beyond the accusations and backstage drama, TLC says the series will explore the emotional toll on women who spent years chasing a crown, only to find themselves caught in the middle of a tumultuous organization.

Through firsthand accounts and behind-the-scenes access, Crown of Deceit asks whether the Miss Universe organization can regain the trust of contestants and fans, or whether years of scandal have permanently tarnished the brand.
Crown of Deceit: Inside the Miss Universe Scandal premieres November 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
