(KRON) -- A 42-year-old Stockton man was found with tear gas after stealing more than $1,200 worth of merchandise from a Target store earlier this month, said the Colma Police Department.

CPD said officers were dispatched to the store at 9:40 p.m. on Oct. 14 and learned that the suspect fled the area on an electric bicycle. Police soon located the suspect in the area of Serramonte Boulevard and El Camino Real.

Colma police said, “As the officers attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on the male, he failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated. The male jumped off the bicycle and fled on foot into the Eternal Home Cemetery, located at 1051 El Camino Real, with officers quickly chasing after him. After a short foot pursuit, the male was detained without further incident.”

Police said the man stole approximately $1,268.97 worth of merchandise from the Target.

A records check also revealed that the suspect had three felony warrants and two prior theft convictions, according to police.

“During a search incident to arrest, personal documents, credit cards not in his name, tear gas and drug paraphernalia were found,” police added.

The man was arrested and faces several charges, including burglary, grand theft, theft with priors, unlawful possession of tear gas, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, evading a peace officer, misappropriation of found property and charges related to his felony warrants. He was booked into the San Mateo County jail.
